Where it started
Smart India Hackathon 2023 set a problem: doctor availability and appointment allocation in public hospitals. Our team started by interviewing doctors and patients at a government hospital instead of opening an editor.
What we heard
Two things kept coming up. Patients travel to a hospital without knowing whether the doctor they need is actually there. And once they arrive, a person in real distress waits in the same queue as a routine check-up.
What we built
A government portal registers hospitals. A hospital portal schedules doctors, tracks beds, and confirms that doctors are present using three independent signals: RFID cards, face recognition on existing CCTV, and Wi-Fi presence. Patients register with their symptoms, and an AI severity index orders the appointment queue so the sickest are seen first. Disease-trend maps help health authorities spot outbreak hotspots early.
My part
I led all the user research and pitched the product to the juries, and I wrote code across all four portals.
What happened
We reached the national grand finale at VVCE as one of the top 6 teams out of 500.
What I'd do next
Test the severity score with clinicians on real triage notes before trusting it with a queue, and start with one hospital's OPD instead of four portals at once.
